Just before 11:00 PM Sunday, the intersection at 1st and Los Angeles Street, just a block from LAPD HQ, erupted in a flash of color as a massive display of illegal fireworks lit up the DTLA sky.

The display went on for about three to four minutes, and though there were no reported injuries, police still want to know who lit the fuse.

Central Division Officer Jorge Zambrano told KNX News reporter Pete Demetriou they found several expended launching boxes that hold 100 or more skyrockets in the intersection.

Zambrano said, "We know it was several individuals just based on the way the projectile boxes or the cases were set up."

The LAPD is working with neighboring businesses to obtain any footage of the suspects or their cars.
