Set to drop on April 5, Vampire Weekend's Only God Was Above Us will end a half decade of anticipation, and members Ezra Koenig, Chris Baio, and Chris Tomson have begun to fill that void with the record's first two singles -- “Capricorn” and “Gen-X Cops” -- each accompanied by new videos built around footage of New York circa 1988 by album art photographer Steven Siegel.
The forthcoming 10-track "magnum opus" -- one of this year's most anticipated albums -- will be available digitally, physically on CD, standard black vinyl, and limited edition clear vinyl on April 5 via the band’s webstore, as well as an alternate album cover version available exclusively at Independent retailers. Pre-orders are available now.
Plus, kicking off on April 8 at noon in Austin, TX with a sold-out show at the Moody Amphitheater during the upcoming solar eclipse, Vampire Weekend will hit the road to celebrate the new release, making stops across the U.S. and Canada before wrapping up back in Austin on October 17. Guests include LA LOM, The English Beat, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Mike Gordon, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Ra Ra Riot, Princess featuring Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum, Cults, a DJ set by Mark Ronson, Turnstiles, and The Brothers Macklovitch on select dates.
Tickets will be available to the general public beginning Friday, February 23 at 10AM local time following presales beginning Wednesday, February 21. Sign up for early access to the band’s presale at vampireweekend.com. Take a look at the full itinerary below.
