The City of West Hollywood announced Thursday that its annual Halloween Carnaval festival has been canceled for 2021, in accordance with COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Carnaval was first launched in 1987 and has since evolved into an annual gathering of costumed revelers and performers.
In May, West Hollywood canceled all major events taking place in the city through the end of 2021, including its notable L.A. Pride Festival.
On Thursday, city officials warned they would institute a curfew if large crowds form on West Hollywood streets the evening of Halloween. L.A. County sheriff's deputies will be patrolling to ensure those who do turn out are wearing face coverings.
Other area cities have implemented Halloween-related regulations this year. Beverly Hills has banned trick-or-treating outright. Los Angeles County has issued guidance stating trick-or-treating is "not recommended."
