A San Dimas neighborhood is in shock after a local woman in her 60s and her dog were both stabbed to death Thursday at a aprk.
The attack occurred in the 1400 block of Renwick Street near Lone Hill Park about 1:35 p.m., according to Deputy Shawn Du Busky of the Sheriff's Information Bureau. The victim, whose name and age were not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Although the motive for the attack was unclear, a suspect has been taken into custody after he was subdued by another man who hit him in the head with a rock and knocked him unconsious.
A man by the name of Tony Page tells CBS-2 that his son-in-law was the initial target of the attack. But when he saw the suspect walking toward him with the knife he ran to his parked truck. The assailent then turned his attention to the woman and her dog.
The man snached the dog's leash out of the woman’s hand and began stabbing the dog, Du Busky said.
"The guy started attacking the lady who was walking her dog, started killing the dog with the knife, then turned the knife on her and started killing her," Page told CBS2.
Page's son-in-law got out of his car and hit the man in the head with a rock as he was stabbing the woman, according to Du Busky.
Officers took the suspect into custody and to a local hoospital where he was evaluated for head injuries. Then to the San Dimas Sheriff's Station where he was booked for murder, Du Busky said.
The suspect's name was not immediately released.
