The fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes, the LAFD reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

"During an aggressive and well-coordinated fire attack, firefighters discovered an adult female, described by residents as mobility impaired, lifeless in a rear bedroom," the LAFD said in a statement.

Information on the woman's identity was not immediately available.

Three other residents, including a child, were being evaluated at the scene for smoke exposure, the LAFD said.

"The presence and functional status of smoke alarms at the time of the fire has yet to be determined," the LAFD said. "The home, built in 1949, was not equipped with optional residential fire sprinklers."
