There was a major disruption this morning at a City Councilmember Joe Buscaino rally in Venice Beach. A woman with a knife was tackled by LAPD officers and taken into custody.
Video shows a woman with a knife being tackled by LAPD officers. As the officers were taking her into custody, the woman said she had a knife on her, but did not admit to making threats at the rally. “Are you serious, bro? It fell out of my f***ing pocket,” she said.
The woman will likely be charged with aggravated assault, according to an LAPD captain.
Officers also said they took witness testimonies saying that the woman made at least one threat while holding the knife. The woman is in custody, and no one was hurt.
Buscaino is campaigning to be the next mayor of LA on a platform of addressing the local homelessness problem and crime.
“Our city has evolved into a place where chaos is common,” said Buscaino in his speech.
During Buscaino’s rally, organizations associated with Services Not Sweeps, an LA-based coalition focused on housing and health-based resources for the large number of unhoused in the area, held a counter-rally. The group distributed hot coffee, breakfast and socks for the unhoused.
