Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth has been in art mode for a minute, and for most of last year he’s been showing off his art by posting his drawing and paintings on Twitter.

So far many have reflected the times were in, with David using his art as a medium to channel the mass anxiety around the coronavirus.
Now it seems David has decided to zero in on a different type of mass hysteria, sharing a new piece of original artwork, one could only assume to be inspired by the controversy surrounding Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's GRAMMY performance of “WAP.”
“WAP” for those unaware, is an acronym for a collection of words that are NSFW, so look it up for yourselves (we’d have to star out two out of three words anyway).
Filled with explicit lyrics, albeit of female empowerment and sexual pride, resulted in the live performance of the song to be continuously needing to be censored out during the CBS airing of the annual award show. To some the performance with its massive stripper heal/dance pole prop, along with gyrating choreography atop a giant bed was blasphemy, to others it was lit.
According to the Van Halen News Desk, David has always been into art. “Throughout his whole life, while touring the world, you could find him doodling on just about anything" — set-lists, tour riders, female body parts, etc. He was always a major part of the visual side of Van Halen, and always tried to make the stage show "look like the music sounds." He designed stage clothes, orchestrated photo shoots, came up with the stage choreography, etc. He also had a hand in designing Van Halen's early tour-books and a few of their t-shirts.
As for David Lee Roth’s take on “WAP,” well we’re actually not entirely sure. While his confusion about the songs meaning is apparent with the piece featuring a note that read “He thinks it means ‘wings and pizza’,” whether he’s here for the song or not isn’t that easy to determine. Take a look for yourself, tweet us if you get it.
