The Who frontman Roger Daltrey is apparently looking to the future, revealing he has no immediate plans to return back to the stage to perform the band's biggest hits, and he's got no studio time booked with guitarist Pete Townshend.

In a new interview with The Times, The Who's Daltrey explained, “I don’t write the songs – I never did.” Roger added that he and guitarist Pete Townshend needed to officially "sit down and have a meeting," over the future of the band, "but at the moment I’m happy saying that part of my life is over.”

His statement echoes one that Townshend made earlier, telling Record Collector magazine in 2023, "I think it’s time for Roger and I to go to lunch and have a chat about what happens next.”

The Who’s last concert, accompanied by orchestra, was back in August of 2023 at Sandringham House in Sandringham, England, lending an air of finality to the group’s iconic legacy. Although Townshend did admit, “Sandringham shouldn’t feel like the end of anything, but it feels like the end of an era,” so it’s currently unclear what Pete may be mixing up for fans.

“It’s a question of, really, what is feasible, what would be lucrative, what would be fun?” Townshend added in that same conversation. “So, I wrote to Roger and said, 'come on, let’s have a chat and see what’s there.'”

For those unable to let go, The Who‘s Tommy The Musical is set to return to Broadway in 2024. Townshend is also working on a new rock opera, inspired by his novel The Age Of Anxiety.
