Following last year's revelation that actors Michael McKean (David St. Hubbins), Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls), and Christopher Guest (Nigel Tufnel) would be reprising their roles in the hit cult mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, some new details have emerged from within director Rob Reiner's camp, revealing Paul McCartney, Elton John, and more as confirmed guests.
Reiner, who directed the original film, dropped the big news during an appearance on Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, "We’re going to start shooting in the end of February," he said, adding that he will also reprise his role as filmmaker Marty DiBergi. "Everybody’s back. Paul McCartney is joining us, and Elton John... and a few other surprises, Garth Brooks."
Reiner told NME last year, "We never thought we would do a sequel. It was only because we started to talk to each other and we came up with an idea we think might work – we don’t know it will. We’re going to try... DiBergi was roundly criticized by the band members for having done a hatchet job, [but] he’s going to be doing the second film..."
Our best wishes and condolences to the family of whomever gets the drumming gig.
