Before Jordan Davis played our Totally Private show at the Hard Rock Cafe Nashville, powered by Spirit Airlines, the singer sat down with Rob + Holly to talk about his favorite songs of his latest album, Learn The Hard Way, his songwriting philosophy, and the real struggle of naming children.

Now a proud father of four, Davis admitted that his youngest child didn't have a name until after she was born. "This last one, she didn't have a name for like the whole time we were in the hospital," he shares, "like it was just, baby."
Sadie would get her name within a few days, but it's proof that naming kids is hard, even harder than songwriting for Jordan. "You're naming a person for the rest of its life." he exclaims. "Then you have to think about nicknames. Like I had a buddy in high school that I can't even say his name, but I'm just like, 'what were your parents thinking?'"
Songwriting seems to come easier for the chart-topping star, but Jordan is quick to admit that, that too has a lot of challenges. "It doesn't feel easy in the process," he reveals. "I'm not very vocal in a writing room. I just kind of sit, think on it, whereas some people are like, million miles an hour throwing ideas out, throwing words, lyrics."
"It's been so long since I've actually finished a song solo, mainly because I get to where now, I'll come up with a verse or a chorus, or just like a couple of lines, and then I'll bring it to somebody else. I like tip my hat to the people that can like start and finish a song totally by themselves. I just think I've been co-writing for so long that, even if I were to do that, I still feel like in the back of my mind it could be better, so I would get in a write and we wouldn't have anything, and I'd be like, 'well look I wrote this the other day I think it's OK.' Play it and then we would kind of tweak it and try to make it better but, I haven't written one like totally 100% by myself in a long time."
