In remembrance of his late grandson Matthew Perry, “Dateline” correspondent Keith Morrison called for giving.
Morrison posted to his Twitter a month after Perry’s passing, asking fans to donate to the Matthew Perry Foundation, which aims to help those struggling with addiction.
“This is not the sort of thing I commonly do, this pitch. But this year is different. And tomorrow is Giving Tuesday. Do what you can; he would have been grateful,” Morrison wrote on the social media platform.
He included a link to the foundation’s website.
Morrison has been married to Perry’s mom, Suzanne, since 1981, according to EW.
After Perry’s death, the foundation was founded with a mission described as: "the realization of Matthew's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction. It will honor his legacy and be guided by his own words and experiences and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible."
"When I die, I don't want 'Friends' to be the first thing that's mentioned. I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned. And I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that," Perry said on the “Q With Tom Power” podcast in 2022. "Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it down.”
The quote is featured on the homepage of the foundation’s website.
Matthew Perry passed on Oct. 28, 2023.
