NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — A young boy who recently lost his favorite stuffed animal in a house fire received a special surprise from New York State Troopers this week.

According to state police, a teacher from the Westhill School District reached out to State Police last week and told them a student named Austin had lost his favorite stuffed animal – a German Shepherd that he got from the State Troopers exhibit at the New York State Fair when he was 2 – in a recent fire.

When troopers heard the story, they sprang into action and paid Austin a personal visit to deliver a new German Shepherd plushie, along with “lots of other goodies.”

Austin was visited by Major Darrin S. Pitkin, Trooper Eric Knapp and K9 Scotty.

“It looks like we made his day,” state police wrote in a Facebook post. “Austin is so happy to have his dog back and says he will sleep with him every night!”
