Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) – This week’s implosion of the Eastside Cannery isn’t being promoted as a big event, but it’s still going to cause road closures in the area on Wednesday night.
The implosion is scheduled for Thursday at 2am. Unlike some high-profile implosions, parent company Boyd Gaming said the Eastside Cannery’s will be as low key as possible. It won’t be open to the public, and there won’t be any designated viewing areas.
The biggest impact will be a full closure of a small portion of Boulder Highway in both directions from Harmon south to Sun Valley. That stretch will close beginning at 11pm on Wednesday and stay closed until approximately 6am Thursday.
The Eastside cannery closed with all other casinos at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, but never opened back up. Boyd Gaming said simply that there wasn’t enough demand to warrant Eastside Cannery’s re-opening.
The company is said to be in discussions to sell the land for future residential development.
