Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Hoover Dam officially reopens to all visitors Friday, following a temporary three-day
The site was closed to the public on Monday due to an equipment malfunction with the facility's overhead cableway system.
During routine maintenance, a heavy cableway carriage shifted unexpectedly and became suspended directly over the main visitor access road.
Out of caution for public safety, officials blocked guest access until maintenance teams safely repaired the system and returned the carriage to its home position.
The dam and power plant continued operating normally and generating power throughout the short public closure.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation opened pedestrian access to the top of the dam and the Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge on Thursday afternoon, with all remaining visitor facilities, services, and official tours expected to resume normal operations Friday morning.
