More dogs in your neighborhood results in less crime, study says

On today’s edition of Sue’s News, The Mark Reardon Show shares first kiss stories, how dogs are lessening crime in neighborhoods and the little-known fact about edible stickers.

July 6 marks National Kissing Day, and the crew reveals when they had their first kiss. According to Sue, teenagers most commonly have their first kiss in middle school and only 12 percent of people say they had a ‘bad’ first kiss.

“What do middle schoolers know?” Jake Baumgartner jokes. “I can’t imagine a lot of people really think fondly on their first kiss - they might think indifferently about it or they have bad memories.”

Sue also shares an Ohio State study that revealed that more dogs in your neighborhood results in less crime: “It’s not just because your dog is scaring off burglars, it’s because you are.”

“The more dogs in your neighborhood, the closer knit the community is…If you have high trust with your neighbors…that is less appealing to burglars,” Sue said.

Finally, Sue reveals today’s random fact: The stickers on fruits and vegetables are edible and regulated by the FDA.
