Calling them “the biggest pretenders ever,” conservative talk host Tara Servatius of The Tara Show took Texas Governor Greg Abbott and his Attorney General Ken Paxton to task Wednesday over the part of the nation’s southern border that falls under their purview.
Servatius said they are “being forced to stop pretending… pretending that they are doing something at the border. Because they are not.”
She cited what she called a “remarkable press conference” by local sheriffs discussing the state’s border policy, and she called Abbott out for kowtowing to immigration-related special interest groups for the sake of amassing a Presidential campaign war-chest rather than doing his duty to protect Texas’s border with Mexico.
“They have to decide… whether they are going to cede parts of Texas to the [Mexican drug] cartels,” Servatius said. “That is literally what those sheriffs said yesterday.”
Servatius said Abbott’s policy of shipping illegal immigrants to the nation’s capital and dumping them off on Democrats runs counter to what he should be doing constitutionally.
“There’s nothing in our Constitution that gives the federal government the right to deportation. Not a thing,” she said. “Border enforcement is not a federal right. It belongs to the states,” she elaborated, citing the 10th Amendment which states that any rights or duties not expressly given to the federal government is considered a state issue and responsibility.
