Former President Donald Trump shared a rather dim outlook on the country on Thursday, saying during an exclusive interview with 98.9 WORD in Greenville, South Carolina, that the U.S. is “going to hell.”

He added there are “very bad people” running the country now who “cheat on elections, and they cheat like dogs.”

The former president is continuing to campaign for the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, which, as it appears, he will win as long as no unforeseen legal challenges arise that keep him off the ballot.

When asked about his competition in the election, which appears to be President Joe Biden, Trump shared some critical opinions about the commander-in-chief.

“We have a president, he can’t put two sentences together,” Trump said. “He can’t walk off stage. [He] can’t find stairs off a stage. And there’s, like, usually about six sets of stairs. It’s the most incredible thing. So we have somebody that is actually putting our country in tremendous danger because, you know, we have a lot of hostile actors out there.”

While he remains critical of the country’s current standing, Trump did offer a plan for what he would do if he wins reelection this November.

“So we do something very, very quickly. We drill like a son of a gun. We have to get energy costs down. Energy’s very high,” Trump said, also taking aim at electric cars, saying he would remove policies the Biden administration has put in place.

He continued saying that he would address the current tax situation, which Biden is looking to overhaul when the current plan that Trump put into place runs up.

Trump claimed that his tax cuts were what “really helped middle-income people” and that Biden wants to end it, which he says will cause “the biggest tax increase in the history of our nation.”

Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is the last major competitor who is still challenging Trump for the upcoming nomination on the GOP side. She says she's in it for the long haul despite being behind him in polling and losing numerous primaries.

Their next head-to-head matchup happens Saturday when voters head to the polls for the South Carolina primary.

When asked about Haley’s ongoing efforts, Trump said that her inability to relent must be caused by “an ego or something,” adding that Haley is “getting a lot of money from Democrats.”

Inevitably, the former president said he wasn’t too worried about Haley, claiming that the party doesn’t support her.

“The Democrats are funding her because, basically, the longer she stays in, she does these commercials, which are just ridiculous,” Trump said. “And she’s getting the money from the Democrats. Republicans aren’t funding her.”
