A poll released on Sunday found that young conservatives in Florida would overwhelmingly support former President Donald Trump in a run for the White House in 2024 over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The straw poll asked who participants at a Turning Point USA gathering would vote for if Trump launched a re-election bid for 2024, and 78.7% of attendees selected Trump, with 19% picking DeSantis, Fox News reported.

Other Republicans in the poll were nowhere close to the top two, with South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem getting 1%, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo getting 0.5%, and former Vice President Mike Pence and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) getting 0.3%.

Trump was the keynote speaker on Saturday night at the event in Tampa, along with DeSantis and Cruz, who also spoke.

When it came to who Republicans at the event thought would be the most challenging Democrat to beat in 2024, several high-profile names were mentioned.

The top responses were California Gov. Gavin Newsom with 30.3%, followed by former first lady Michelle Obama at 13.6%, Hillary Clinton at 10.5%, Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Ver.) at 10.3%, and Vice President Kamala Harris at 7.9%.

Two spots down from Harris was President Joe Biden, who only 4.4% of respondents thought would be the most challenging Democratic opponent.

When it comes to who will run for the Republican nominee in 2024, much remains up in the air, with former President Trump continuing to tease his supporters — and those who don’t support him — by not making public his decision.

This was not the first time that DeSantis and Trump have been in the one and two spots in a straw poll among conservatives, as DeSantis placed ahead of Trump in last month’s Western Conservative Summit survey.

In that poll, which allowed respondents to pick more than one candidate they would support in 2024, 71% of attendees approved of DeSantis, and 67% approved of Trump.
