Nye County votes to open back up

Coronavirus mitigation efforts turned over to Nevada counties on May 1st

Las Vegas, NV (KXNT) - Nye County now has a date to reopen at 100-percent capacity.

County Commissioners voted unanimously on Tuesday to reopen at full capacity on May 1st. May 1st is when Nevada plans to hand over control of coronavirus- related measures to local counties

In addition, Nye County Commissioners also voted to do away with masks and leave it up to the person to decide if they want to wear one. Governor Steve Sisolak currently has a mask mandate in place statewide.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Nye County has recorded 2,865 cases of Covid-19. Currently, the county's test positivity rate is at 4.9%, with 1 person hospitalized with the virus.

106 Nye County residents have died from virus-related complications.

Nevada Health Response says that nearly 25 percent of the county's population has received at least one coronavirus vaccination, with just over 15 percent of residents being fully vaccinated.
