There’s something you should know about Trent Brown, who the Patriots acquired from the Raiders Tuesday morning. Brown, a one-time Pro Bowler and former seventh-round pick of the 49ers, is, among other traits, an impossibly large individual, standing 6’8” while weighing a remarkable 380 pounds.
Even in a league full of absurd physical specimens, Brown, who seems thrilled to be embarking on his second tour of duty with New England, stands out like a sore thumb, a mountainous, ungodly creature out of Greek mythology. Feast your eyes on this Pulitzer Prize-worthy photo of Brown making three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, an athletic marvel in his own right, look like his kid brother.
This is the image of a man who has missed precisely zero meals in his 27 years on this Earth, assuming he did come from here and not some far-away galaxy inhabited by goliath offensive linemen.
Seeing Brown beside the diminutive likes of Sony Michel (5’11”) and Julian Edelman (5’10”) is the height of comedy.
Assuming Brown can stay healthy (an extended bout with COVID cost him much of last season), the University of Florida alum should be a welcome addition to New England’s offensive line, though his presence suggests the Patriots are unlikely to retain free agent Joe Thuney, a former All-Pro selection at right guard. Thuney played under the franchise tag last season.
