PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — This week on Flashpoint: Host and KYW Community Affairs reporter Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about compensation for college athletes.
In recent weeks, California passed the Fair Play Act that allows college players to hire agents to secure business deals and sponsorship. Pennsylvania lawmakers introduced a similar bill and other states are following suit.
However, the NCAA has yet to change the rule barring coed players from earning money. There is also major pushback from pundits that say paying athletes change the amateur nature of college sports.
