In recent days, the Trump Administration issued a nationwide ban on evictions for non-payment of rent through the end of the year. The order came via the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which said halting evictions would prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The only problem is the order does not provide funding for rental assistance and does not forgive the rent due. Landlords are feeling squeezed and while tenants have a reprieve, many fear that the US will face a housing crisis in the new year when tenants are unable to pay up.
Rasheedah Phillips, managing attorney of housing policy at Community Legal Services, joins Dr. Vincent Reina, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of City and Regional Planning and Sheryl Sitman, private landlord and real estate investment consultant, for an in-depth discussion of this very sensitive topic.
Our Patriot Home Care Changemaker of the week is the B. PHL Innovation Fest. In its second year, the festival is helping businesses and communities connect innovation and purpose through the unprecedented pandemic and recent racial unrest.
Executive director Michelle Histand discusses the goals of this upcoming conference and provides a preview of what to expect. B.PHL Fest is free and runs Sept. 15 - Sept. 17.
