PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The benefits of a daily aspirin have long been associated with benefits to heart health, but there are a growing number of studies that also link it to fighting colorectal cancer.

City of Hope researchers have found aspirin appears to reduce tumor growth and inhibit recurrence of the disease. But this is only part of the information.

The researchers are now looking at the correct dosage of aspirin that can be used as a daily prophylactic without triggering dangerous side effects such as stomach and brain bleeds.

Colorectal cancer is one of the top five cancers in the United States, and if shown to be helpful and safe, we may be looking at additional uses for the "wonder drug."
