PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — As the calendar turns to September, we are beginning to enter a new phase in our battle against COVID-19.

Certainly the temperatures are not going to drop overnight, but as summer turns to fall and the school year begins in earnest, we are going to see if there will be a "second wave."

There is no doubt that more people are wearing masks, washing hands and social distancing, and this is definitely helping.

Another source of optimism is that we are learning more about medications that appear to work in the inpatient environment, as well as those that have not been as effective. However, we are already starting to see increases in cases in young people, and the virus can be transmitted to others at home.

Events will continue to swirl around all of us, but my most important advice is to stress the importance of safety at home.

It is important to continue to watch out for those who are older or with a preexisting condition.
