PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It's not something that is talked about often, but the feminine product business is a major industry here in the United States and throughout much of the world. But now, there is news from Scotland with word of a new approach.

The Scottish parliament has approved stage one of a plan to make all feminine products free in the country.

At the present time in Scotland, feminine products are funded in schools, colleges, and universities, but the bill would further fight what is known as so called "period poverty" by making all period products completely free for anyone who needs them.

In the United States, one in five American girls have either left school early or missed school entirely because they did not have access to feminine products.

The Menstrual Equity for All Act, the first comprehensive bill to address the challenges that women and girls face in obtaining feminine hygiene products in America, has been introduced in congress.
