PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — In the world of science, data is king. It’s data and the analysis of data that should help determine decisions, like when bars and restaurants can open, when sports teams can or can't play, and when it’s safe to send children to school.

But what data is the most important that should — and sometimes isn't — being used?

According to CDC experts, the first is contact tracing and the amount of time it takes for interviewers to track down people who test positive — only two states report data in this area.

Another is turnaround time on diagnostic tests, but not a single state has a consistent report.

This is why we are flying. We need this data and we need to act on the data, and it is very important as we edge closer to the cold and flu season.
