PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Is it safe to take a flight on an airline? Like many decisions, as we slowly open up the country to things like travel, the decision needs to be made by you and your family.

In fact, you have to think about the impact on you and your family. Airlines are taking some positive steps, including deep cleaning flights, insisting on passengers wearing masks, and even taking temperatures of passengers in certain instances.

But, there is an elephant in the room: they are not guaranteeing 6 feet social distancing and it is quite possible you could be on a flight with 70% or greater occupancy.

The problem is that people are most infectious in the early days of COVID and may not even have a temperature. And masks, while helpful, are not nearly as helpful in the absence of 6 feet social distancing.

Airlines are safer than they were, but clearly not safe from COVID.
