Some may be surprised by this result, but according to the report, weight stigma is pervasive in men with obesity and as many as four out of 10 say that this stigma stops them from reaching out the physicians to get help for other medical issues.
The article in the journal Obesity also says that men received less support and attention when they are obese then women.
There is also a surprising and often unnoticed issue.
The government has wisely put a premium on educating people about the risks of being obese, but there is a down side. Most major electronic medical records and coding systems will spit out a diagnosis code with attached terms such as obesity and morbid obesity - which patients can see and can be distributed wherever medical records are sent.
Some avoid care for this reason.
