PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There's interesting news from the Philadelphia Phillies.

No, I'm not going to talk about player acquisition (although they could use one more starter). I actually want to praise them for something that ultimately is far more important.

If you went to any games last year, you may have noticed protective netting about 12 feet high extending down part of the first and third base lines.

The netting was put up in response to people being injured by batted balls and even baseball bats when players lost their grips. The Phillies announced that they are expanding the netting further down both base lines and raising the height to 25 feet.

In addition, they are using a field green material that makes it less obvious. It is a major public health move and the team should be applauded.

They also could use a couple of relievers.
