Positively Philadelphia: Museums offer unique holiday gift ideas

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — If you're looking for some unique holiday gifts, why not check out the many museums in the area that have exciting gift shops? There are several shops at the Philadelphia Museum of Art including a brand new shop on the main floor offering some cool t-shirts. 

"We wanted to make sure these were produced ethically," said retail manager Christine Doobinin. "We had a local printer produce these for us on sustainable 100-percent organic cotton shirts. Even the ink that was used was chemical free." 

Along with scarves, jewelry and books, there are some other items you might not expect. Grab a coffee mug that says "all rise" from the Ruth Bader Ginsberg collection at the National Museum of American Jewish History. 

How about a 1776 toy drum from the Museum of the American Revolution? (Warning: it does not come with ear plugs.) A George Washington snow globe would look handsome on any coffee table.  

At the Penn Museum, spices and sauces like Zulu fire hot sauce from Africa, and chocolates and chocolate drinks from Africa and Mexico. 

The Barnes Foundation is offering Cynthia Lawson 2Chic designs with handmade bags and more made in Elkins Park. 

At the Mütter Museum, you can find an ear ring key chain—it's an actual plastic ear—a giant guts sticker set, and a shrunken head magnet. Now who would not want one of those? It would go nicely next to your magnet of Florida palm trees.
