Franklin Institute chief astronomer Derrick Pitts said the Franklin is opening its doors to federal employees to give them a break from their worries during the shutdown.
"Of course it's stressful when you're not getting a paycheck, and this can certainly wear on everybody else in the family as well," he said.
The offer is valid through the weekend to government workers and up to three guests.
"For a family or four with one federal ID, or a federal ID and three friends, you can come over and enjoy all the great stuff we have here," Pitts added. "We have the opportunity to provide a chance for them to get some relief from the pressures and the stress of the partial shutdown."
