On Wednesday, PSPCA officers safely removed 17 dogs — including a young puppy — plus two bearded dragons and a snake from the house, which was being condemned by the city after narcotics were found in the residence during a search warrant.
PSPCA officers were called to the home on the 2600 block of West Lehigh Avenue in response to a large amount of animals kept there in unsanitary conditions — including buckets used for human urination and defecation.
Officials suspect it was a breeding operation.
The animals are being evaluated by the PSPCA. Many of the dogs had fleas or skin conditions. The lone puppy was suffering from a leg fracture.
This rescue comes one week after PSPCA authorities rescued 55 dogs and puppies in Lancaster County.
Both investigations are ongoing.
