3 men wanted for blowing up ATM in Logan, taking $2,000

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are searching for three men caught on surveillance video blowing up an ATM in the city’s Logan neighborhood.

On Tuesday just before 11 p.m., one man entered New Far East Palace restaurant at North 18th and West Ruscomb streets. He warns a customer to leave, then another man enters the restaurant, sticks an explosive device in an ATM, and lights it.

A third suspect manned the door.

Police say they stole an estimated $2,000 from the ATM.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call 911, or submit a tip by calling 215-686-8477 or texting 773847. The public can also contact the Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3353.

Since the protests — and subsequent acts of looting and vandalism — started over the death of Minneapolis black man George Floyd, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw said police have responded to 135 explosive events, including 50 that have damaged or opened ATMs.

One 24-year-old man even died trying to blow up an ATM in North Philadelphia.
