VOORHEES, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — As a Voorhees police officer finished his meal Feb. 15 at the Lamp Post Diner in Gloucester Township, he left an unexpected baby gift for the waitress — a $100 tip.

The officer's bill only came out to $8.75, but he left a gracious tip for 23-year-old Courtney English, who is nearly eight months pregnant.

He wrote on his receipt, "Enjoy ur 1st. You will never forget it."

The gesture brought English to tears, recalled diner manager Mark Patete.

"She's going out on her maternity leave as of March 1. And I don't know if the officer just had their first baby or not, but he just said, 'You'll always remember your first,' and left her a $100 tip as a gift for the baby. All I can do is smile every time I talk about it."

Patete said the officer stops by the diner from time to time, but he doesn't know his name.

He said English's parents wanted to send the mystery officer a hoagie tray to say thank you, but Patete said he was told the officer wants to remain anonymous, and to allow his gesture to speak for itself.
