Health Director Dr. David Damsker said if a student is infected at a college outside of the county but then returns home in the county, that case counts for Bucks County.
“That is accounting for a large percent of the increase that we’ve had recently,” he said, “college students coming back to Bucks County.”
The infections on college campuses are mainly spread at social gatherings.
“It’s not from the classroom setting. They’re not giving it to professors,” Damsker said. “It’s what’s they’re doing when they’re not in classes.”
He advises students who test positive to try to stay isolated on campus, if possible, rather than going home and infecting their parents or spreading the virus further.
And rather than encouraging their kids to come home, Damsker said parents who are concerned about climbing case counts on campus should tell their kids to be smart about social gatherings and recognize that this isn’t a forever situation.
