Krug is a South Jersey native who graduated from Cherokee High School. He helped lead the Cavaliers to their first ever National Championship as a senior in 2019, scoring a program record 75 goals.
He says he was really hoping to hear the Wings call his name on draft night.
"I was talking to (Wings coach and GM Paul Day) a good bit throughout the summer, you know, here and there," Krug told KYW Newsradio. "Just to let him know my interest in playing box lacrosse, just transitioning into the box league. I really let him know that I wanted to play for the City of Philadelphia and help them out in any way possible.
"When it happened, fifth round, it was just something unbelievable and an experience that I'll never forget."
Krug has adjusted his focus to the indoor game.
"I don't have a ton of experience or background in it," he said. "Where I grew up, didn't really have too much box lacrosse in the South Jersey area. Now there's definitely a lot more, different leagues and clinics and stuff going on. This summer, I started playing in the Philadelphia Box League, the men's league, which was an awesome experience. I really got to just understand the game, understand the difference in style of play and really get my feet underneath me through box. I really believe that my physical aspect in the game can really contribute to my box play. I'm hoping to learn a lot throughout training camp."
Not many players help their college team win a national championship and then months later get drafted by their local pro team. Krug realizes that and appreciates how special a ride the last few months has been.
"2019 has been treating me very well," he said.
