CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Camden County is taking social distancing to a new level.
You can no longer go into a convenience store and pour yourself a cup of coffee, tea or any other beverage. Staffers have to serve you.
Some people are referring to this as the "Wawa rule," though Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli insists it's nothing personal.
"People have been mingling together and touching the same thing together for the past couple of weeks," Cappelli said. "Some of these stores were creating a very unhealthy situation and were creating opportunities for this virus to spread."
As the policy was rolled out, there were reports of some shoppers helping themselves to coffee creamers, milk cartons, sugar packets and the like. Cappelli said the county will address that.
Health department inspectors will be checking for compliance, and any store that violates the rule will be shut down. Cappelli expects other counties in the state will soon follow suit.
