Cash tolls will resume on Delaware River bridges

UPDATED: 2:40 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Cash tolls will resume next week on Delaware River Port Authority bridges.

The Ben Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross and Commodore Barry bridges went cashless in late March as the coronavirus pandemic spread throughout the region.

For those without E-ZPass, drivers’ license plates were photographed and they were mailed bills.

But Monday at 6 a.m., it’ll all get back to normal — sort of.

Cash tolls will resume, but drivers are asked to wear face masks.

Toll collectors will be wearing masks and gloves, too, and Plexiglas shields have been added to the booths.

John Hanson, DRPA CEO and president of PATCO, noted the toll lanes won't be at full capacity yet.

“We're not going back full, so we're only going to have about half the cash lanes that we typically have on a normal day or a normal rush hour or off-peak hour,” he said.
