The students haven’t been inside their high school since mid-March, but teachers and administrators wanted to find a way to salute the pair selected as the valedictorian and salutatorian.
Jim Casey, Lansdale Catholic High’s president, said the school’s director of social media, Meghan Callen, came up with the idea.
With the school’s blessing, she contacted parents of the students by email to let them know she would be coming to their homes to shoot photos and video and bring them the surprise announcement.
“She would be around with a presentation of flowers and a gift bag and a video message from our principal, Rita McGovern,” said Casey.
Callen recorded the teens — from a safe distance — showing them beaming from the news.
Callen then edited a presentation — incorporating photos taken by the students’ families — and added music.
Ciara Coulter of Chalfont was declared the valedictorian, and Anthony Saldutti of East Norriton the salutatorian.
Casey said the pair will prepare graduation speeches, which will likely be delivered virtually.
Coulter is headed to Villanova University to study chemical engineering, and Saldutti is going to Penn for mechanical engineering.
