Following a 9-2 2018 season that saw them win the Middle Atlantic Conference for a second straight season and get in the playoffs, the Aggies are the preseason pick to win the Middle Athletic Conference yet again here in 2019.
"It's been a good camp," head coach Duke Greco told KYW Newsradio. "We're excited. We're a little banged up right now. But we're healing up, it's nothing major, so we're just trying to get guys back and get healthy and get ready to go."
Greco says the Aggies have a lot of experience on the roster this year.
"We have a lot of seniors. We have 32 seniors. It's the most I remember having here, so competition is at an all-time high and it's been an exciting camp."
The Aggies will have a new starting quarterback in 2019 after the graduation of one of the best in program history in four-year starter Dashawn Darden.
"We've had some guys step up," Greco said. "(Senior) Anthony Fontana's leading the way now and we have a newcomer, (junior) DaQuan Bohannan, and (junior) Jesse Milza and some guys really competing."
Last year, the Aggies allowed just 13.8 points per game and they should be just as tough, if not tougher, to score against this season.
"We have nine of 11 starters back on defense," Greco said. "The Nobile brothers are back on the defensive line. They're pretty good."
How good? The twins, sophomores Michael and Anthony, combined for 50 tackles for loss and 21 sacks last season with Michael logging 33.5 of the tackles for loss and 15.5 of the sacks.
Greco says the talent on defense isn't limited to the line.
"Linebacker-wise, all four starters return and secondary-wise, we're excited," he said. "We think it might be the best secondary we've had here in some time, there's the possibility of being that."
The Aggies will open the 2019 season on the road on Friday night, Sept. 6, visiting Kean University.
