Cover-19% is a new initiative and a call to action by artist Brad Carney, who is also lead instructor with Mural Arts Philadelphia. Carney saw what the COVID-19 pandemic was doing to social services, artists, struggling families and small businesses, and wanted to help.
He found inspiration in fellow artist Natalie Hope McDonald.
“Natalie created 40 masks, a series of portraits, and donated to Dirty Franks but also gave me credit for it,” Carney explained.
The campaign asks artists and restaurants to donate 19% of their sales to an organization of their choice, and that organization would help the small business by using their social media and larger email lists to push new clients their way.
“Cover-19% is about bringing together the community by offering opportunities for sale from artists, small businesses and restaurants, and partnering with local nonprofits,” he said.
Carney is asking that everyone post their charitable donations on June 19 at 3 p.m.
“I hope that people engage through social media and email posting to learn about these opportunities for sale and to learn about local charities that need our help,” he added.
