PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade took over the town Sunday.

Thousands of people came to the parade, many of them with alcoholic drinks in hand. Some knew each other, some didn't, but either way, Mike Gallagher considers everyone around him as family.

"It's a gathering of people of who keep the traditions of Ireland and Irish Catholics together and it's just a good time to be around each other," he said.

It's also apparently a good day to celebrate turning 60.

"My daughters brought me here for my 60th birthday," said Yvette Delaney.

"We're Irish, we wanted to surprise her for her birthday and what better weekend to do it than on the St. Patrick's Day Parade?" said her daughter, Erin Delaney.

From the sound of it, Erin and her sisters made the right call.

"The atmosphere is great, fun times, good music," said Yvette.
