ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — How often do you hear of a charity making out at a blackjack table? Dealers at an Atlantic City casino have donated two days' worth of tips to a local homeless shelter.

The Hard Rock had two days of practice play prior to its late June opening. Dealers decided to donate their $8,200 in tips to the Turning Point Day Center, which provides homeless people with meals and a place to shower and get some training to perhaps get a job.

Rev. Collins Days, who runs the place, said, "We were absolutely amazed that the dealers at Hard Rock would do that for an organization like this. It is so well welcomed and needed, and we are greatly appreciative."

Management matched the dealers dollar for dollar, so Days walked out with a $16,400 check.

"Hard Rock's been working with Turning Point as well to try and help the homeless here in Atlantic City," property President Joe Lupo added. "So it was a great coordination, I think, and a great tribute to our people that really make the difference."

That money will go a long way, particularly in the winter cold when their services are needed more than ever.
