Flyers fan returns stick from series-clinching Game 6 victory: 'It’s Cam's history more than anybody else’

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Flyers fan who caught a special piece of the team's series-clinching Game 6 victory over the Penguins is giving it back to that game's hero.

Cam York scored the overtime goal Wednesday night to send the Flyers into the second round of the playoffs, and then, in elation, threw his stick into the crowd.

Jack Brod of Newtown ended up with that stick, and on Friday, he gave it back to the Flyers defenseman.

“It’s Flyers history, but it’s Cam’s history more than anybody else, so it obviously felt good to be able to return it to a professional player who wants that for their own memorabilia,” Brod said.

York said he plans to keep it for posterity.

“I’m not reusing it, I’m just gonna frame it. I feel like it would be a crime to reuse this one,” York said.

After returning the stick, Brod received a signed jersey, a different stick and an invitation to a second-round home playoff game as York's guest.

The Flyers kick off the second round Saturday night in North Carolina against the Hurricanes.
