PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) A Delaware County-based inventor is behind an effort to create a do-it-yourself mask sanitizer that resembles a pretzel warmer. Experts in several fields are volunteering their time to help make the device a reality.

The Light Box IR was first heard about on the tech industry news site Technical.ly Philly.

Marvin Weinberger, CEO of Innovation Factory in Havertown, said local experts in a variety of fields are assisting in making a mask sanitizer.

Weinberger said the concept is simple and based on a Stanford University study, where coronaviruses can be killed in 165 degrees for 30 minutes.

The next step, Weinberger said, is taking the prototype to a medical lab to determine if it will kill coronaviruses on masks.

A stand-in will be used for COVID-19, and another coronavirus, most likely E. coli.

Once the Light Box is proven to work, Weinberger said the DIY device will be licensed to the world, so lives can be saved.
