Public hearings move online for proposed AC Expressway toll hike

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Public hearings for a proposed toll increase on the Atlantic City Expressway will be held online over three sessions, rather than in-person, due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

If the funding plan stands, the trip from end to end will increase from $3.75 to $5.50 for most drivers.

Officials with the South Jersey Transportation Authority (SJTA) say the money is needed for major projects like repaving and lighting. They say it’s important this is done to keep thousands of men and women at work and for sustained economic development.

Anyone with internet access or a smartphone will be able to tune into the hearings live Wednesday and Thursday at sjta.com. 

The AC Expressway toll hearings are as followed:

  • Wednesday, noon to 2 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m.

Users can submit questions or comments by email or phone. Live phone commenters can call 888-747-5272 and enter access code “493192” to make a comment during a session.

Comments will be considered until April 20. 

The public comment window is open until April 3 for a similar rate hike for the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
