
"Some of them have over 20 texture ingredients, and they are basically fillers, sugars, salt," said Christine Hazewski, of Eating for Life Nutrition Counseling Services in Philadelphia. Hazewski is a registered dietitian and a licenced nutritionist.
"My take is: You can't pronounce it, it's probably not best to eat it," she said. "Or if your grandmother didn't eat it, then you shouldn't eat it either."
She suggests not eating overprocessed foods. Further, she says, if you want to make your own burgers, black bean burgers are an option. And for meateaters, she suggests looking for low-fat options like free-range beef, bison or venison.
