PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A sanitation worker was injured in an explosion in North Philadelphia Friday morning.
The bomb squad was dispatched to the scene on N. 53rd Street, where authorities discovered the cause of the explosion was an oxygen tank that had been crushed in the back of the sanitation truck.
The worker was transported by his manager to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.
Police had to empty the truck to find the tank.
The situation is now causing a major traffic issue for the neighborhood.
