PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Summer starts for some at the Fairmount Park Horticulture Center Saturday.

A new program from the Fairmount Park Conservancy and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation called Getaway at the Greenhouse aims to bring people to the center for a makeshift "summer oasis dead in the winter."

"Each room will have its own theme," explained Erin Nardini, special events manager for the conservancy. "Right now, we're currently standing in the 'jungle,' which will be where all the programming will take place."

Marc Wilken, Parks and Rec director of business and event development, is in charge of that programming.

"The over 21 crowd (can) definitely come check out our live music series curated by Rec Philly," he said. "For families, we'll also have our Jungle Rock Recess, so a kids' DJ, giveaways."

There's also a giant sandbox, a Moroccan lounge area, a game lawn, and a fairway for wine, beer and food truck vendors. Wilken said the space just speaks for itself.

"The plants, the warmth — it's so cozy and we just thought we can bring in additional elements like the programs and passive play to really animate it for everyone to enjoy."

The weeklong event was inspired by Parks on Tap, the city's summer-long traveling beer garden.

Similarly, Wilken added the event will bring "together free family-friendly programming for all ages, plus (bring) audiences to parks they may have never been to."

Gateway at the Greenhouse is free and will be open from Feb. 2 to 10.
