PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)  This is usually the time of year when the Eagles are on the practice field for their off-season workouts. But as Fletcher Cox and his teammates do virtual team activities, he remains optimistic that there will be football in September.

“It’s been weird, you know.  At the same time, we’ve got to make things happen, but it’s been weird having to call in and do virtual workouts. You get to see everybody,” he said.

He’s optimistic the NFL season will be played as scheduled, but understands safety is the top priority for the league and its players.

“I’m pretty sure that they’ll be pretty cautious about it. Our health is a priority and I respect everybody, each and every person, for that,” he added.

One possibility would be starting the season without fans in the stands, and Cox admitted it would be strange playing in front of empty seats at the Linc.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has stated the league will continue to follow the lead of experts when determining if it will be safe to play football this fall.
